How to Cut Down on Belly Fat Enough to Show Your Abs

People have spent billions of dollars in an attempt to get visible abs. They also invested a massive amount of time. If you aren’t knowledgeable about the types of fat and how to get rid of it, you will most likely be wasting your time and energy. Many people will do countless crunches and sit-ups, and this isn’t as effective as you may think. The thing is we can’t spot reduce, meaning we can’t choose where the fat comes off and target one specific area. This article will give you tips on how to get rid of that stubborn layer of fat on your belly. 


Subcutaneous Fat Vs Visceral Fat

There are two types of fat that we are concerned with in regard to our abs. The first is subcutaneous fat which is the fat layer we can see and squeeze. It is stored right beneath the skin. The second type of fat is visceral fat which surrounds our organs and unlike subcutaneous fat, it is biologically active. This means that the fat can disrupt our hormonal function. It also pumps out cytokines which are compounds that can increase blood pressure, the risk of heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. The good news is that this type of fat can be managed through diet and exercise.

 

Abs are Earned Through Diet

The best and quickest way for your abs to make their debut is to focus on your diet. By having a calorie deficit, you will lose fat and eventually, your abs will show. If you are doing insane core workouts, but you aren’t eating right or the right number of calories your success will be very limited or non-existent.

There is no one magic abs diet that a person can follow for guaranteed success. I’d recommend following the Isagenix system for the best results. If that isn’t possible for you then try a balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies, some whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. Regardless of your program, it is crucial to stay away from sugary foods! These will cause your blood sugar to spike and will turn straight into fat and negate your progress quickly.

 

Recommended Abdominal Exercises

It isn’t possible to spot reduce, but you can spot strengthen. This means doing exercises that burn a significant number of calories and strengthen the area you want at the same time. Sit-ups and crunches fall short because they do not burn enough calories to be worthwhile in getting abs. Exercises like mountain climbers, burpees, and squats are most effective. These may not appear to be ab exercises, but they actually do require a lot of core strength and will be effective in changing how your abs look.

Another reason why exercise is important for showing abs is that it reduces the amount of insulin in your blood, which reduces how much fat you hold onto.

 

Decrease Stress

The visceral fat mentioned above is greatly influenced by our stress levels. When we are stressed we release extra cortisol, which is a stress hormone. This causes our abdomen to hang onto its visceral fat and prevents us from getting lean. In order to promote the release of visceral fat, we can’t be overly stressed all the time. I’d recommend employing techniques for relaxation such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga, colouring, or nature walks.
